March AGM Preview – Canberra Brewers

We’re all set for our Annual General Meeting on Thursday night, back at the Harmonie German Club on Thursday, March 2. This is the meeting where people put up their hands and show us if they’ve got what it takes to Keep Making Canberra Brewers Great … Still!

Nominations closed on Thursday (7 days before the AGM) but they can be accepted during the meeting – so I’d encourage you to consider nominating one of the positions which are up for re-election.

Hopefully we’ll also have a report on the results of our stall at the National Multicultural Festival stall. Thanks once again to all the club members who gave up their time last weekend to help the stall run smoothly, and spruik local brews on punters.

Fill ‘er up!

In a return to his first session as education officer, due to popular demand, Patrick will do another presentation on counter-pressure bottle filling, or how to get beer from your keg to a bottle. Get down to the bierkeller from 7.30pm to learn the real secret behind getting all those gold medals in competition!

All for a good cause

As we outlined at our fantastic meeting at Bentspoke’s ‘The Cannery’ in Mitchell last month, the club wants to make a $3000 donation to the John James Village to recognise the fantastic support that John James Foundation has given us over the past couple of years, and to help an organisation that does genuine good for the community. This $3000 donation includes about $700 club members have already raised at a movie night and selling specialty malt donated by Voyager Malt. We’ll vote at the meeting to ratify this decision.

BJCP course – enrol now!

We’ve officially started taking numbers for our BJCP course for 2017. 11 out of 10 participants agree this is the best beer experience you’ll ever have on Tuesday nights in Deakin. For a meer $180 you’ll get to sample 150 beers over 10 fortnightly sessions and learn all about what goes into around 80 different beer styles. You’ll have a great time getting to know more about beer and your fellow club members. Sign up on the forum here.

Raffle-tastic

We’ve been waiting on this one for a while, but it’s looking like we’ll finally have one of the awesome new Fermentasaurus fermenters up for grabs! We reckon that even if you don’t win it, you’ll be straight on to Kurtz at Mashematics to buy one after you see these babies. We’ll also have some sparkly new chrome tap handles, some Crankshaft and Pact cans, and plenty more!

Library books

Before he hands over the library to the new education officer, Patrick has been eagerly going through the system to make sure everything’s up to date and all the books are in good order, so now’s a great time to jump on the club’s library website and chose a book. Check out the online catalogue at https://canberrabrewers.librarika.com/ to peruse this great resource. You can reserve a copy of something and we’ll deliver it at the meeting.
