Water was on the minds of everyone this month after Dr Peter Aldred from the University of Ballarat visited the club as guest speaker and gave an in depth talk on the importance of this important ingredient in everyone’s favourite drink.9871606966_8cf5aa104c

Not since Cougar gave his talk about how he got to where he is today had the club been so quiet, questions were fired at Dr Aldred who had an answer to everything and spoke keeping everyone captivated and amused at the same time.

Also available on the night to compliment the talks was a Brewer’s Showcase with the same beer brewed using different water styles.

This month also had a last minute change of venue to the Canberra Club to ensure everyone could fit in but it also allowed a much better room with everyone able to be seated and the use of a slideshow with detailed statistics on everything H2O.

As normal the raffles were held and although the talk went for quite a while (but well appreciated by everyone!) there was also ample time for the usual social catch-ups.

This week’s meeting venue has changed.

Due to space requirements and the education talk this month, the venue has been changed from the Harmonie Club to the Canberra Club, West Row  – a short distance from the Wig & Pen.

Timings are the same (7:30 for an 8pm start) – A Google map link is here – http://bit.ly/1dxLszQ

Education for the night will be a talk on the importance of water in brewing arranged by Richard Watkins and presented by Dr Peter Aldred (http://bit.ly/14imuw1) from the University of Ballarat.

Did I mention we have changed venues last minute? See you there!

This month was a little quieter than those gone by with no brewers challenge up but with Mead Day not far away and it actually being IPA Day the beers was flowing.

Plenty of mead was brought in for tasting with a tasting table set up and feedback given on many different tasting variations of the honey-based nectar.

Moz and Rohan kept the miracle boxes busy with kegs of their beers made available to everyone and the committee’s welcome talks were kept brief to get straight into the social side of the night.

With Mead Day only a few days away the club raffled off a mead starter-kit as well as a beer diary, some glasses and some tasty bottles of beer.

The brewer in charge of social activities for the club managed to conveniently keep it quiet he was celebrating his 29th birthday that night however with the help of a few club members the club helped in celebrate ensuring it was quiet no longer.

Plenty of friendly banter as usual about everything you could think possible and a most enjoyable night for everyone.

To ensure everyone is aware Oktoberfest will not be held on the first Thursday of the month as normal, due to other commitments we will not be able to have the venue for us so please ensure you mark down the October Oktoberfest meeting as the second Thursday of the month.

We’ll set out more reminders via all the normal methods as we get closer.
